Photographer Flora Borsi( tumblr / facebook / behance ) - “In this series called ”IRÉEL” I mixed photographic elements with painting techniques. A hyperrealist painter aims to achieve a result which looks like a real photographic picture. A pictorialist photographer’s desired result is visually equivalent to a painting. The photographs are real, I’ve just applied some color/toning effects, adjusted the contrast and a few skin retouch.”
In the late 1960’s, photographer Arthur Tress began a series of photographs that were inspired by the dreams of children. Tress had each child he approached tell him about a prominent dream of theirs which Tress would then artistically re-create and photograph with the child as the main subject.
In recent years, poachers in Africa have decimated the mature bull elephant population. A particularly poignant loss came this week when it was reported that Satao, a beloved elephant of Kenya’s Tsavo East National Park, had been killed by poachers. Satao was a recognizable fixture of the park, and one of the few remaining ‘tuskers’ - elephants with a set of tusks weighing approximately 100 pounds or more. The depletion of the tuskers has created a negative effect on the elephant gene pool, as weaker DNA is being passed on to new generations.
